WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item upgrader kit has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the Item Level Upgrade that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item upgrader mod, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via various methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

Crests
