Item upgrades provide players with the ability to upgrade their equipment that they already have. This can be done at any item upgrader NPC.

Generally, upgrades increase an item's main stat and can give it extra benefits, based on the item type. Examples include Whistan's shield for FB Sorcs or Goldwraps for caster builds.

Armour

Link's armor is a crucial element to protect him from danger. Although it isn't upgraded like weapons, you can enhance its defense capabilities in different ways.

Armour is designed to protect animals and people from harm or injury regardless of whether it's a direct physical attack or a range of hazards posed by the environment or activities. Historically, most armour was made of fabrics or leather, however metal protections were also used, especially for military applications like heavy cavalry and combat drones.

Like weapons there are a myriad of ways in which armor can be upgraded however, most of them will require a visit to one of the four Great Fairy Fountains located throughout Hyrule. Each fountain provides a different level of upgrade, with higher levels of protection requiring more rupees and other materials.

First, Armor Upgrades are permanent upgrades. Once they've been put in place, they can't be removed until you own a different piece of gear with the same upgrade. You should only apply most powerful upgrades to your equipment, and ensure that you have all the components required to complete the process.

You can find the upgrades you require in a variety places around Hyrule. These include merchants, shrines and even enemies. These are usually marked with a blue triangle or a gold circle and are available in large quantities as you progress through. They may appear randomly however there is a chance that getting certain upgrades will trigger a quest that will reward you with more.

It is important to remember that even though the amount provided by each upgrade may differ however, it will always be more than nothing. A full set of upgraded armor will give you a high-defense boost that protects you from all kinds of attacks, except magic. This makes it a powerful weapon for all classes.

Weapons

You can upgrade item your guns with special upgrades that make them unique. They can boost damage, alter the weapon's stats so that they are suited to your particular build or even unlock new attachments such as unique ammo types, enchantments and more aesthetic options.

To upgrade a weapon, you'll need to have an upgrade component available and the item itself. The weapon should be at a minimum of an appropriate level to upgrade it. Most weapons can only take one upgrade.

You can find weapons upgrade components scattered across the world and from the hands of enemies or purchased from vendors. Upgrade components are a mix of ingredients that you can slot into weapons, armors, trinkets and gathering tools in order to gain an attribute bonus. They require that the equipment be of a certain level to accept the upgrade and can be upgraded in the same manner as other items.

Upgrades are a combination of Smithing Stones (a type of stone) and Runes. They are used to improve the stats of weapons and improve their ability to scale with other stats. They can be found from enemies dropped in the open world, bought from certain merchants, or obtained through drops during combat.

Two NPCs can upgrade your weapon: the Blacksmith Hewg, in the Roundtable Hold hub zone and the Smithing Master Iji located in the Road to Manor hub zone. Both of these NPCs will accept your Smithing Stones and Runes in exchange for a more powerful version of the weapon and an upgrade.

It's important to prioritize upgrading your most-used items first, and then items that you won't need to replace soon. Upgrade your weapon first, and then upgrade your shoulders, chest, hands, and feet if you plan to play an asymmetrical build. Similar principles apply to Magic and Utility Items, with the caveat that some products may be superior to others depending on your playstyle. Armour is the same, with certain reforges better than others.

Magic Items

A character is able to upgrade only one magic item at one time. If an upgrade plan is cancelled, any subsequent upgrades for the item upgrading will not start. Magic items that are upgraded cost double the amount of gold it would cost to make or purchase however, they also provide additional benefits.

A magical item could be any item that has special properties or effects. These are usually weapons, but they can also be armors, shields and cloaks, as well as potions. They can also be scrolls, rings or other items. Some of these items can be made sentient.

Many magic items can have their abilities enhanced. This makes them more useful for a player, or it can help them overcome a particularly challenging encounter. An infused weapon might provide bonuses to damage against a particular kind of enemy, for example. This is particularly beneficial for characters that have reached a level where they will likely face the same type of monster in dungeons repeatedly.

A ring that is infused can grant the ability to resist piercing, bludgeoning or slashing damages from non-magical attacks (not even silvered ones) until the next time the character takes a long rest. This is especially useful for combatants who are melee or any person who wishes to stay clear of buying an armor.

Some enchanted items have special powers which allow the character to cast spells in addition to those on their class's list of spells. This is a great benefit for characters who have trouble maintaining their spell slots due to multiclassing. These enchanted objects require an Intelligence check (Arcana), and the spell is determined by rolling a table based upon the amount of Intelligence point expended.

Other objects that are enchanted can allow the character's appearance change or create a completely new one. These items are especially beneficial for characters who are forced to leave their home, or are located in an area where they may not be accepted. A magical item could give them the ability to disappear or make them invisible to everyone, except for the chosen person.

Utility Items

Utility items are any equipment that doesn't fall under the categories of Armor or Clothing and have a variety of capabilities. They are not compatible with each other, in contrast to weapons or armor. Most utility items provide a passive effect that the player can activate by using them, however, some come with additional capabilities that are triggered when the user presses an action button or activates an ability.

Generally speaking, the most popular type of utilitarian item is the Flashlight that is used to illuminate the surrounding area. Other useful items include the Helicopter Cap and Rocket Boots which allow the player to float in mid-air while moving and the Jetpack that allows the player to accelerate in all directions while on the ground. Many utility items can be instantly manufactured in the Engineering section, while others can be unlocked through research projects or projects in the Proving Ground.

In addition to the items that are available in the standard inventory, players can also obtain the most powerful utility items by purchasing them from the Atomic Shop and also from seasonal Scoreboard rewards (such as the Shadow Goggles). Some of these items can be upgraded to allow more efficient use.

Most utility items increase the combat ability of a particular character or give the player a sort of advantage in navigation. For instance, Sharpening stones made by the Weaponsmith increase Ferocity and Power as well as Maintenance Oils created by the Huntsman increase the concentration and healing power. Other items that are useful can be utilized by players to increase Damage or Condition Damage.

XCOM soldiers can equip one accessory item upgrades to start the campaign. An additional slot is available once you have completed certain engineering, research, or experiments on the Proving Ground. In the Alien Hunters downloadable content, additional slots are available by equipping a Grenade Launcher. This permits the player to make use of an Smoke Grenade or Bomb while an offensive grenade remains in the main slot.
