The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities in the overseas market and doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Toto believed that North America as a growth market for Washlet bidet seats and toilets, Www.totopia.kr in contrast to its "base" markets of Japan and China.

Origins

Toto's early history which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's economic growth. In the first half of its existence, the company manufactured products to meet the demands of modern and contemporary urban housing. It had the first tunnel kiln in the nation that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered automation to allow production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.

In the late 1980s, the company began expanding outwards to take advantage of sales and new markets. It created the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other products from other manufacturers to complement its own range of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy helped increase sales and expanded the firm's market share.

By the 1990s, Toto had shifted its emphasis to research and development of household appliances that are water-related. It also redesigned its distribution system to better serve customers and boost profits. The company used the same just-in-time approach to its supply chain management as well as sales program. This resulted in a greater level of satisfaction with the customer.

Toto continued to develop toilet technology. The latest toilet, for example, has a strong tornado flush that is more eco friendly than conventional toilets. Toto uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green purchasing policy. You would expect a group with a name like Asia to be a prog rock group, but it is actually a fairly straight forward rock outfit. The album was a huge blockbuster, but not without issues. Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experiences. Before joining the group, the members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their distinctive sound has become the norm for '80s pop, influencing many contemporary artists.

The album opens up hard with songs like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write great AOR songs that slowly sink into your head. But the album also contains some slower, more jazzy tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations. This song is a mix of folk and distortion AOR that could sound completely wrong but actually works very well.

After Toto IV the band's fortunes started to plummet. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career, and the band was dominated by drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band continued with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It wasn't as well-liked as IV. However, the band managed to release another chart-topping album in 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. The album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was the first album featuring a new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet arrangement of the previous albums. It was a more powerful, consistent effort that had an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. Its edgier sound reflected the maturation of the group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's increased proficiency on the drums, as well as a more mature, confident vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work was more precise, sharper and less cloned previously recorded efforts.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded their Amsterdam live concert that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The group released their new studio album a few months later and then embarked on a world tour to promote the album. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old demo tapes and tapes to make a new record featuring songs that were never recorded before. It was completed as a double album titled Then and Now in 2001. It was the first album in the band's history not to include any single song that had the word "A" in its title. It also included one previously unreleased track, "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure and the vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe laryngitis infection which limited his singing capabilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes and the other original members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility of reforming the group. The lineup, with the exception of Howe who was occupied with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also had the appearance of singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
