Obtaining a Driving Licence C+E

Driving licence C+E is the most comprehensive HGV licence you can get. It allows you to drive a lorry that has an unloader or semi-trailer that weighs over 750 kg.

The course for Category CE is an natural progression from the training that leads to Category C. It involves driving on roads that have different traffic density and on training tracks.

Requirements

A driving license is a valid document that indicates that a driver has satisfied the legal requirements for driving. The requirements differ from one country to the next, but they all include passing a driving test and not having any traffic violations in the past. The tests are usually divided into theory and practice but there are some exceptions to this rule. The first step towards obtaining an license is to complete a driving course, and pass the theory test. A driver must be physically fit to be able to drive. Some countries require proof of fitness, for example, a medical exam.

The next step is to apply for the Category C license, or a Car Driver's License. This allows you drive trailers, passenger vehicles, and trucks up to 7.5 tons. If you already hold a Cat C license, you can upgrade to the Category C + E, which allows you to drive articulated heavy-goods trucks up to 44 tons.

You must be at minimum 21 years old to obtain a Category C license. This is the minimum requirement. However, you may be able to get one earlier if you've already completed or are currently undergoing training required for the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. You must also hold an official driving license to qualify for the category C+E license.

The C+E driving license is the highest hgv category available. The C+E license combines the categories C and E and is the most comprehensive HGV license available. You must have a Category C license to be eligible for a C+E licence. You must also pass a driving test as well as medical examination.

In addition to passing the theory and practical driving exams, you must have medical checkups and eye exam. The SME's are extensively trained in question writing techniques and are knowledgeable of the skills, knowledge and capabilities required to complete the task in a satisfactory way.

The written and oral exams are designed to be as similar to real life as possible. Examiners are able to deny your license in certain circumstances. This could be the case if you were driving erratically during the test or were involved in a crash or if you have violated any traffic rules, laws or regulations or if your vehicle was unsafe. You'll have to take the test again and pay additional fees if you violated any traffic laws, rules or regulations.

Medical examination

To be qualified to drive a lorry on the EU one must undergo an examination for medical reasons. A doctor will examine the eyesight of the driver and his general health. This phrase clarifies that the driver's privileges to drive are not being taken away because of FMCSA's adverse actions. The final rule also requires the State-designated licensing authority (SDLA) to publish the medical certification status on the CDL holder's CDLIS driver record. This will prevent fraudulent and untruthful claims that the driver is medically certified even though the driver is not. The SDLA will be required to provide the contact details of the ME who conducted the medical examination on the driver's record to further deter fraud. This requirement will be in effect until FMCSA releases new rules to deal with this issue.
