World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like damage from PvE and crit chance.

If the weapon's upgrade template ends in %, it will gain 3percent of its previous attack damage every time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the current level of the item. The cost increases with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets in order to give them a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue level before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the equipment with the upgrade (for example "Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using fewer upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level with normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher tier version of an item will be dropped during the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear even when they're not sure what can be improved upon the reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a significant possibility that the item will become obsolete or even break when it fails. A failed upgrade will cause the destruction of the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Glyphs

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of an Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use and also through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the many Glyphs as well as some rare glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Leveling

When a player upgrades an item it is replaced with a different item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will get the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item also has its own set bonus. This could be a disadvantage in that the item could be more expensive even if you do not need it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough tokens to be able to do this. This causes the Best item upgrade to be exchanged for a new one, which will come with the level 1 base, and a totally different set of bonuses. This is useful for some items, but it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it could waste a lot of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times, increasing their value and allowing the player to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants a buff if the player repeatedly enters or leaves the water. Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to increase the level of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets over ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also boost the defense base of the item, and upgrading weapons will increase the damage base and the strength and dexterity required to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero equipment, which can be upgraded eight times. Each each time you upgrade an item, it is given the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the farther you exceed the maximum number of upgrades. Failures can result in the item upgrader kit returning to its original state and the player having to pay for more materials than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar in its growth bar will be reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it gained, such as crit chance, attack damage, or other effects (such as an increase in healing over time or the speed of reloading). The player is able to use their weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to the highest. This means that should a weapon gain an increase in its crit chance the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a brand new attribute that was added to item definitions. The value is recalculated every time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are dependent on its rarity score and upgrade slot count. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item upgrades could have five upgrades, each costing 25600 Technology Points, 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items have a lower cost per upgrade.

Premium items may require different upgrades than regular gear. For instance they may require less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. Regardless, the player will need to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. Each upgrade of equipment will require different amounts of ingredients needed to upgrade, in addition to the expenses that are listed above.
