Buying a Pram Newborn

Parents and caregivers can rely on prams and pushchairs to be multi-functional and versatile. They're the co-pilots in the new adventure of your child.

A pram newborn is designed for newborns and babies. It has the most solid, sturdy carrycot with soft and secure walls.

A pram comes with a bassinet. However, it can also be converted into a stroller once the baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns are extremely fragile and must be kept as safe as possible. A stroller or pram with safety features will keep your baby secure and comfortable while traveling. A stroller or pram must have a working break and a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps with two waist straps and the crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person pushing it. Verify that the stroller you choose meets these standards.

Find a double stroller that allows your baby to ride in the recommended position of lying flat. This position helps support the baby and prevents an unintentionally dangerous curve in the spine which can cause spinal problems. It also lowers the risk of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation by keeping airways free. The majority of prams that can be used from birth will have the seat unit, which will recline into a lie-flat pram mode for younger babies and then transform into a pushchair unit for older children.

The suspension on a pram is important because it can affect the smoothness of the ride. A pram that has a lot of spring suspension will be more expensive however, it's worth the extra cost in the event that you plan to use your pram each for a while or more.

Look for a pram that has two shoulder straps, ideally padded and a five-point safety harness. It must fit your child's body perfectly. Be sure there aren't gaps or areas that are loose where fingers could become trapped and that the buckles are easy to use - especially for older children. It's also worth considering whether you'd like a pram with a parent-facing feature or not. It's ideal to keep an eye on your little one and helps them feel secure by the familiarity of their parents.
