We contacted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. They considered the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency among other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The name implies that GE's Profile series is targeted at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies in their kitchen. This fridge has them all, from the Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive, so I expected better.

This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the small blip. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth French door fridges, and it can hold a decent amount of frozen food when as compared to similar models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about the same as the size of a French door refrigerator that costs this much. It has a decent-sized icemaker in the left door. However it's not the biggest one I've seen.

You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to make a custom storage solution. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is stylish, too. The LED lighting is an appealing touch. The bins for storage inside include a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall items. The drawers come with temperature controls so you can set them for Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to shut and open, but I found the textured plastic coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a full suite of features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from anywhere in the globe. It also offers a lot of customization options. It will also send notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer must be defrosted and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill which is an option that is available in other GE refrigerators that allows you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to disperse at once. It does have a countdown on the fridge display to display how much water have left, but it's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test for various reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained constant at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never fluctuated more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to prevent the risk of a freezer burn. The fridge's refrigerator section also performed well, reaching the desired temperature for initial set within an hour and maintaining that temperature steady over the course of our testing.

Bosch is known for its high-end appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app lets you monitor and manage your fridge remotely using your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is costly, but offers great features and functionality at a reasonable price.

While the fridge is a fantastic appliance but it's important to be aware of the limitations. You may need to get creative with tall items because the fridge has a small shelf space. Additionally, the shelves are not sprillproof and can be easily damaged or stained by sharp objects. The trays can be easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they should be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge features the standard French-door layout, with gallon-sized door bins on each door and two rows of shelves that capture spills, and a set of more spacious drawers. The top shelf on the right side can be folded to provide more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer for products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

This refrigerator is equipped with an ice maker, making it easy to move the ice when needed. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that can help you better organize the placement of items. It also has a large container to store frozen food items, and a separate container for ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's an easy way to monitor your refrigerator and control it, particularly when you're not at home.

But while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it does not necessarily add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than some of the others we test. This could be due to its bigger capacity.

Another issue with this refrigerator is its doors. They have handles that are sunken at the front, which allows shorter people to easily pull them open from the bottom, but they're difficult for taller people to steer closed without slamming them. It would have been better if they had front-mounted handle.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good option for those looking to combine the benefits of a fridge with a French door with an efficient layout. Its capacity is superior for a counter-depth model, and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also a little cheaper than the best counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which helps make it a desirable choice.

If you're looking for a French door refrigerator that won't break the bank this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a basic refrigerator that might not be as appealing like some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make it a suitable choice. Its most important feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food items like vegetables and meat fresher longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser and a decent Ice machine that is fast.

Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you use the majority of your fridge's cooling power into this area, so that you can keep food items that require extra attention. This feature can be adjusted using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also alter the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the generic settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly constant across the different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator did not differ much from 38 degrees. This is a great performance however it doesn't be among the top in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be paired with a smart thermostat in order to obtain more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of stainless steel with a grey body which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It is capable of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared with shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
